Dutahair 0.5 gel caps are prescribed for treating male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). The medicine works by enhancing hair growth and preventing hair loss from all areas of the scalp, including the front. The gel caps reverse balding in men with mild to moderate hair loss but does not restore hair lost for a long time. The medication is not suggested for treating hair loss in women.

Dutahair 0.5 capsules contain Dutasteride 0.5mg. The gel caps specifically inhibit the action of both forms (type I and type II) of the enzyme 5a-reductase, which converts the male hormone testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) that is found in hair follicles and is the androgen, which is responsible for hair loss. DHT leads to hair follicles in the scalp to shrink gradually, producing smaller and thinner hair that do not eventually emerge from the follicle. Dutahair 0.5 capsules reverse the balding process as it blocks the buildup of DHT in the hair follicles of the scalp, further allowing the hair to grow normally.

Take a medicine with a glass of water once a day with or without food. Continue the dose for up to 6 months or longer as recommended by your doctor. Avoid chewing or opening the capsules as this may make your throat sore.

Some common and less serious side effects observed while being treated with this medicine are inability to have or maintain an erection, decrease in sex drive and problems with ejaculation.
