This medication is used to treat male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) at the crown and in the middle of the scalp. It should be used by adult men only. This medication works by decreasing the amount of a natural body hormone (DHT). Decrease in amount of DHT leads to enhance in hair regrowth and slower hair loss. Finasteride, the ingredient in this medicine, does not affect hair growth on other parts of the body.

With Proscare, the active ingredient Finasteride leads to a rapid decline in DHT concentration to combat male pattern baldness. Within 24 hours of consuming this medicine, the concentration of DHT drops by 65%. The full effects of medication can take three months or more to appear.

Some of the common or less serious side effects with this medicine are impotence, loss of interest in sex, or trouble having an orgasm; abnormal ejaculation; swelling in your hands or feet; swelling or tenderness in your breasts and dizziness.
